Institute of Mechanical Engineering
IDMEC / IST

Founded within the "Programa Ciência", IDMEC is a private non-profit association of science, technology and training whose funding members are Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP).

IDMEC is directly oriented towards five strategic objectives:

• To promote R&D actions.
• To promote technology transfer.
• To develop advanced training programmes.
• To evaluate and audit new entrepreneurial processes.
• To develop integrated management programmes in energetic, logistic and technical areas.

Consolidated in a technological structure, IDMEC is focused on specific and specialized actions within Mechanical Engineering. Organized in two poles (IDMEC/IST in Lisbon and IDMEC/FEUP in Oporto), IDMEC has been playing a relevant role in national R&D coordination in Mechanical Engineering, the majority of the Portuguese Researchers in this area are integrated in this Institute.

IDMEC/IST is the leader research institution of the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics (LAETA).
